What is openJII
A one-screen orientation to the openJII platform: what it does, who it is for, and how you go from a measurement to shared results.
openJII is an open platform for plant-science research. It helps you collect photosynthesis and plant measurements from the field, bring them together in one place, analyze them, and share them with the wider research community.
It is built and run by the Jan IngenHousz Institute, a non-profit research institute focused on photosynthesis, and it is open source.

openJII is built for the people doing plant research in the real world:
- Plant scientists and agricultural researchers taking field measurements
- Research groups running experiments across sites and seasons
- Universities and courses teaching plant physiology with real data
- Crop-breeding programs comparing many plant lines
You do not need to be a programmer to use it. The web platform and the mobile app are designed for researchers first.
How it works
Everything in openJII follows the same simple arc: measure, analyze, share.
Measure
Take measurements in the field with the openJII mobile app and a handheld device such as the MultispeQ, or stream data continuously from IoT sensors. The mobile app works offline and syncs when you are back online.
Analyze
Your measurements collect in one place, organized by experiment. View trends, filter, and compare your data in the web platform, and export it for your own analysis.
Share
Invite collaborators to your experiment, and choose when your data becomes public. openJII is built around open, FAIR data.
